Best News Ever? Robocalls Get Bitch Slapped By FCC

Anyone who has ever been woken up at 4:00 am because of a Robocall or has had to deal with the same call dozens or even hundreds of times times will be happy to learn that making those calls is about to become much harder.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Wednesday announced the tightening of loopholes to put an end to the constant ringing/nagging of those calls.

Under the new FCC guidelines several will make telemarkers lives a little bit harder.

  • Telemarketers must get written permission before calling you.
  • Companies can no longer call you just because you’ve done business with their company in the past.
  • Telemarketers must make it very easy to end the call using an automated process.
  • Automated political calls unfortunately will still be covered. School calls will also be protected since they are considered “informational.”
  • Information calls from schools and political parties still can’t be delivered automatically to cell phones with written permission provided for those devices.

According to USA Today:

“Robocall telemarketers use predictive technology to automatically dial thousands of homes simultaneously and connect live representatives with call recipients. Often, consumers hear nothing when they pick up the phone because there’s no representative available.”

While the new robocall laws will still lend themselves to companies willing to break the rules it will also provide receiving parties with a way to report company’s that abuse FCC guidelines.

Are you happy with the new guidelines laid out by the FCC or should they do more to end annoying telemarketing calls?
