Eva Mendes Sweatpants Divorce: Ryan Gosling Defends ‘Joke,’ Says He Wears Sweatpants

After Eva Mendes made waves for saying that sweatpants are the “number one cause of divorce,” Ryan Gosling took to his Twitter account to defend his girlfriend’s honour.

Gosling went on the social networking site on Thursday night to say the sweatpants comment was just a joke. He also said that he loves to wear sweatpants, and that he was wearing them as he was tweeting to his fans.

“Obviously sweatpants thing was a joke. Wearing them now. That’s right, tweeting in sweatpants. Rats! Said too much! You win again Twitter.”

Eva also spoke out since making the comment that sweatpants lead to divorce. She said that her comment wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, according to Entertainment Tonight. Eva took to Instagram to share a pair of her sweatpants, that she swears she wears around the house.

“Dear favorite pair of sweatpants. I was just kidding when I said you’re the #1 cause of divorce. Everyone knows that orange crocs are the #1 cause of divorce. Either way it was a bad joke and feel terrible if you or anyone thought I was serious. Thanks for understanding sweatpants. Sorry orange crocs.”

Vanity Fair noted that Gosling rarely comments on social media. In the four years that he owned a Twitter account, he’s only used it to poke fun at himself or to promote his work. The “sweatpants cause divorce” debacle must have been enough to make Gosling want to speak out about it. It’s no surprise to some fans that he wants to support his girlfriend.

Eva Mendes, slammed the comfy and cozy pants in a recent interview. She was currently promoting her makeup line, Circa. Eva said, “You can’t do sweatpants. Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants.” Of course, she said it with a laugh, but no one thought it was funny.

The twitter-verse went in an uproar after hearing the comments that “sweatpants are number one cause of divorce.”

Laura Bowes tweeted: “Eva Mendes says sweatpants are No 1 cause of divorce in US. Also, flip-flops give u acne, t-shirts make you sterile & hoodies cause cancer.”

Roxi Fernandez quoted Mendes’ infamous comment and added her input: “‘Sweatpants are the #1 cause of divorce in America.’ – Eva Mendes Dumbest thing I’ve read in days, weeks even.”

Ouch! Twitter is not planning on backing down anytime soon from Eva’s sweatpants lead to divorce comment. But she’s not the only buxom celebrity who feels that way.

Dolly Parton says that she agrees with Eva Mendes’ sweatpants comment. According to People Stylewatch, the country singer doesn’t believe in wearing them either. It’s not hard to believe since Parton loves to be glammed up with rhinestones and teased up hair. She says that she loves to look good for her husband, Carl Dean.

“I try to always fix up for him. I don’t want to go home and just be a slouch for him. We really have a good time. We plan our special little things, but we’re very comfortable with each other also, so if we did wear sweatpants that be okay.”

“I either wear tight pants, or no pants. My husband likes that pretty good.”

It doesn’t sound like this sweatpants debate is going away anytime soon. Every woman in Hollywood will be asked about it, for sure.
