Shocking ‘Halo 5’ Teaser Raises More Questions For Xbox One Exclusive

343 Industries and Microsoft released a new teaser trailer for its upcoming Xbox One exclusive, Halo 5: Guardians, early Saturday morning as part of the #HUNTtheTRUTH viral campaign, the Inquisitr reported on Friday. It’s unclear if the video was released early or if this is part of the build up to a big reveal. However, it has sparked rampant speculation as the community has discussed the ending and possible clues.

The Halo 5 teaser trailer opens by looking down the barrel of a UNSC sniper rifle. A bullet is fired and camera tracks it from left to right as it heads towards its target. That target is Master Chief’s helmet, which shatters on impact. You can briefly hear the signature Halo sound of monk chanting before the game’s logo and the #HUNTtheTRUTH hashtag appears on screen.

When the viral Tumblr site first appeared, it featured the bullet with the word “Traitor” on it. Reddit user AssaultCommand noticed that the same word written on the bullet on the trailer. That’s not the only word, however. The rotation of the bullet appears to reveal the word “Truth” though others are seeing different words such as “Hero” and “Halo.”

As has been mentioned frequently, Halo 5 will feature a Master Chief that’s somehow separated from the UNSC. Oni Agent Locke, now a Spartan IV, is on the hunt for the legendary Spartan II. The reason behind this major plot point is still not clear.

The implication so far is that the UNSC may be hunting Master Chief, possibly as a traitor despite his heroic actions in the past. We’ve already seen the Earth’s military and the ONI intelligence agency take a negative turn toward the Spartan II program in the Halo extended universe.

The Spartan II program creator, Doctor Halsey, was arrested prior to the events of Halo 4 and then turned to work with Jul M’dama and his Covenant faction during the Spartan Ops campaign in the Xbox 360 gamer. How that factors into Halo 5 remains to be seen.

Some other fresh details on the Halo 5 campaign have come out over the last couple of days, as well. Cortana will play a role in some form, according the AI’s voice actor. Meanwhile, Agent Locke is confirmed for additional games past Halo 5 and will play a “prominent role.” He will be a playable character.
