WWE News: Sheamus To Win Intercontinental Title At ‘WrestleMania’?

The speculation surrounding Sheamus and his impending return continues, as there is now a possibility that the Irishman could be the eighth man in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match at WrestleMania and win the title, according to Reddit user MetsFan4Ever (via LordsofPain).

Sheamus, 37, is slated to return, as a series of vignettes for the past month have hyped his return without giving any specifics to his actual return date. With WrestleMania 31 set to take place next week, the WWE is looking to maximize his return, and a dominating victory at the event would do just that.

MetsFan4Ever, who has broken numerous WWE news stories in the past, states that the company is tossing around the idea of having Sheamus make a surprise return and be the eighth man in the Intercontinental Litle Match. The report mentions that WWE expects Sheamus to receive a tremendous response from the live crowd.

Throughout the course of the match, Sheamus would “heel it up,” meaning that he would resort to tactics to turn the crowd against him. The end result would see Sheamus cost fan-favorite Daniel Bryan both the match and the title, thus winning the match himself.

These events could culminate in a feud between heel Sheamus and babyface Bryan. At one point, several reports suggested that WWE had interest in having Sheamus face Bryan in a one-on-one scenario at WrestleMania, but those plans obviously didn’t come to fruition.

It’s hard to envision the WrestleMania crowd giving the fighting Irishman an overwhelming reception, considering the current participants in the match. With three huge fan favorites in the match, such as Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, and Dean Ambrose, that would place Sheamus as the fourth favorite at best.

This new direction contradicts the Inquisitr’s recent story that suggested that Sheamus will make his return in the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal at WrestleMania 31. However, that particular scenario also had him returning as a heel, something that has been rumored for quite some time.

Despite this outcome being possible, it was noted that this particular version of Sheamus’ involvement at the big event is still less likely to occur. The current expectation is for Daniel Bryan to leave California as the new Intercontinental Champion.

Whichever direction the WWE elects to go in with Sheamus, his involvement at WrestleMania and direction following the event will be one of the more interesting events to keep tabs on. Although injuries have sidelined Sheamus for nine of the past 24 months, as noted in the Inquistir’s recent report, he is still one the company’s more popular performers and will figure into their plans in some fashion.
