Lionsgate Releases ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2’ Teaser Trailer Online [Video]

It had been rumored that fans of the Hunger Games would be rewarded by production company Lionsgate with the first teaser trailer of Mockingjay Part 2 playing ahead of this weekend’s highly anticipated Insurgent premiere, but Christmas came early via the internet.

Watch it here:

The first teaser trailer of Mockingjay Part 2 features sound bites of the previous Hunger Games films as the flaming mockingjay transforms on screen. Though it features no actual video footage, the end of the clip yields a message from Katniss Everdeen pleading, “Tonight, turn your weapons to the Capitol!”

Mockingjay Part 1 ended on a cliffhanger with a tortured Peeta Malark having been brainwashed to kill the love of his life, Hunger Games heroine Katniss Everdeen. Lionsgate has been criticized for splitting the book triology’s shortest novel into two parts for cash gains and Mockingjay Part 1‘s profits may have suffered as it was chastised for being more dramatic than action-packed as its predecessors. Despite the grumblings, Mockingjay Part 2 is sure to lure in Hunger Games fans for what is predicted to be perhaps the best of the series due to high intensity drama and action as Katniss brings war to the Capitol.

The Hunger Games movies are based on the trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins. Set in a dystopian future, the story follows a teenager by the name of Katniss Everdeen as she first becomes an unwilling participant in a government orchestrated game to the death, then rises to the position of leading a revolution. The Hunger Games films have benefited from a top notch cast of Oscar winners including Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, and the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Last year’s promotion by Lionsgate of Mockingjay Part 1 was met with mixed reactions from fans as information trickled slowly and they failed to even produce a teaser trailer of the Hunger Games flick until July through a partnership with Samsung. Fans had feared that the late release meant Mockingjay Part 1 may not be the quality production they were expecting and many were angered that Samsung users were given the sneak peek rather than sharing it with the masses. As a result, perhaps this time around, Lionsgate will be promoting Mockingjay Part 2 in the more traditional sense.

The Hunger Games series has been a box office powerhouse though competition will be fierce as Mockingjay Part 2 fights for first place against the long awaited sequels Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Mockingjay Part 2 is set to be released in theaters November 20th.
