PS4 Players Can Enjoy Free Online Multiplayer This Weekend, Try Out ‘Battlefield: Hardline,’ ‘Dragon Age: Inquisition,’ And More

Starting this Friday, all PlayStation 4 users will gain free access to the ability to play online multiplayer games. Gamers must usually have an active membership to the PS Plus service to use online matchmaking within PS4 titles. However, Sony announced on the official PlayStation Blog that they will be offering special access to all PS4 owners that will make online multiplayer free from this Friday through the remainder of the weekend.

Only access to online multiplayer gaming on the PlayStation 4 will be available for free for the weekend. No other additional services or benefits that are generally tied to a Playstation Plus subscription will be included as part of this weekend’s free trial.

Sony wanted to make special mention that this means all PS4 owners will be able to enjoy the various multiplayer modes of Electronic Arts’ Battlefield Hardline, which is set to launch on Tuesday. As such, the newest installment of the popular shooter will release just in time to be available to take part in this weekend’s free multiplayer on the PlayStation 4.

“Playstation Plus is offering free online multiplayer for all PS4 owners. Just log on to PlayStation Network during the free weekend period, launch your favorite multiplayer game, and you’ll be playing online with your friends, whether you are a PlayStation Plus member or not. Check out multiplayer modes for Battlefield Hardline (releasing March 17) such as Conquest and Hotwire, fight for Super Earth together with friends across the galaxy in HELLDIVERS, or join your friends on strike missions with Destiny.”

The free online multiplayer weekend on the PS4 is intended to provide fans with a sampling of what online matchmaking can offer those who aren’t currently members of Sony’s PS Plus service. Those who have only played the single player campaign of Dragon Age: Inquisition can finally try out the series’ new co-op multiplayer mode. Additionally, the free weekend will have perfect timing to give PS4 users the chance to play the new online heists of Grand Theft Auto V.

It isn’t unheard of for Sony to offer free temporary access to online multiplayer on the PlayStation 4, but it also doesn’t happen often. As a Polygon report points out, this is only the second time that a free multiplayer weekend has been held since the PlayStation 4 was launched. Before the game launches later this week, fans can also begin pre-loading Battlefield Hardline, as previously reported by the Inquisitr.

Do you intend to take advantage of this weekend’s free online multiplayer access on the PS4 or are you already a Playstation Plus subscriber?
