Lea Michele Talks ‘Spring Awakening’ Film

Despite rumors to the contrary on the web this week, Glee star Lea Michele is not (necessarily) slated to star in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening just yet.

Yesterday, E! reported that the star- who starred in the Broadway version- was in talks to play the lead when the film jumps to the big screen. The site cited Spring Awakening‘s director McG, who said

“We’re talking to Lea Michele because she made the role of Wendla famous and we’ll see if that pans out and works with the timing of her schedule on [Glee]… I love Lea; we’ve talked about it. When I first got turned onto the show she was in it so it’s her voice that echoes in my heart. I really think she’s wonderful and we’ll see where it takes us.”

The news was very promising to musical fans, who would unanimously love to see Lea Michele reprise her role as Wendla on the big screen. However, Michele’s flak confirmed to Entertainment Weekly today that while the star is very keen on exploring a big screen role in Spring Awakening, there are no definitive talks just yet for the project to be a go. In a statement, Michele’s rep said on behalf of the actress:

Spring Awakening is so special to me, as is the character Wendla. We have discussed this as a possibility, and we’ll see what happens.”

Her rep continued:

“There were initial talks about this project… However, there is nothing confirmed at this time.”
