Mississippi: Jimmy Lyons Faces Two Counts Of Murder After Allegedly Shooting A Family Of Five In Their Home

A Mississippi man is facing two counts of murder after he allegedly opened fire at a family of five, killing the father and his 9-year-old daughter.

Sources say that at approximately 12:20 a.m., police arrived at the Sims residence, where they discovered a horrifying scene that will never escape their minds. Police officer Donna Davis said that it “reminded her of a scene out of a horror movie.”

Police discovered a family of five with gunshot wounds to the body.

The mother, Victoria Sims, 29, and her two children – boy and girl – were discovered on the porch covered in blood while the father, Jermaine Sims, 31, and their 9-year-old daughter was still in the house.

The father and his daughter died as result of their injuries, but the rest of the Sims family are expected to recover.

Before dying at the hospital, the little girl kept saying, ‘I want my mama,’ ” said Officer Davis.

The suspect, Jimmy Lyons, 32, of Brookhaven, Mississippi, was taken into custody on two counts of murder.

A Brookhaven resident, Dinki Davis, stated that “they had to be so afraid. I can’t comprehend how a person can just shoot innocent children. It’s just something you don’t expect to happen in Brookhaven.”

Brookhaven police stated that after interrogating Lyons, he appears to have had no remorse for shooting the family of five. Chief Bobby Bell said, “Right now he’s acting like he did what he had to do.”

He continued as follows.

“Basically we have a confession from him. We have evidence that we have collected from the crime scene to send to the crime lab, and we’re going to have to interview the survivors of this situation once they’re able to talk to us.”

Mississippi police say although there weren’t any witnesses, they do believe the suspect and the father, Jermaine, were involved in a verbal altercation prior to the deadly shoot out.

Bell said, “The argument led to a confrontation and a gun came up that was supposed to be Mr. Sims’ gun, and once he retrieved the gun, he started shooting. He said he was scared.”

He continued as follows.

“I think the whole thing is deliberate. I think if you listen to his statement, you can see it’s deliberate. I don’t think it’s a situation where he can say it’s self-defense or anything.”

According to Captain Clint Earls, “There were injuries that were noted to the body of some of the victims that were on scene long enough for us to note their injuries. Other injuries were discovered by EMS on the way to the hospital. Some injuries are still not known completely.”

He continued as follows.

“The only thing we are waiting on is getting some of the victims in well-enough health to where they can shed some light on what caused the incident to erupt.

This is one of those things you can’t police, you can’t go in a home and police these things. All we can do right now is pray for both sides of the family and hope they’re able to deal with what’s happened.”

This is a developing story. More information will be available as the story unfolds.
