Mariah Carey Shocks HRC Audience By Singing On-Key

Mariah Carey has been ridiculed for her off-key performances lately, but those same critics can’t make fun of Mariah Carey for her latest performance. According to the Daily Mail, Mariah Carey wowed audiences at the Human Rights Campaign Gala on Saturday evening.

“The 44-year-old songstress rocked the house as she performed at the Human Rights Campaign gala at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles, California on Saturday. She looked stunning wearing a black spaghetti strap floor length mermaid gown while raising awareness for LGBT human rights issues. Taking to the stage to sing her hit Hero, the 16-time Grammy winner looked to be in her element, belting out the tune to a captivated audience.”

According to Just Jared, Mariah Carey was joined at the event by TV executive Shonda Rhimes, Scandal star Dan Bucatinsky, Grey’s Anatomy actress Sara Ramirez, and others. Twenty years ago, an event like this attended by the world’s biggest entertainers wouldn’t have even been possible. Things have definitely changed.

Mariah Carey is trying to keep busy while preparing for her Las Vegas residency. Billboard recently reported that Ms. Carey has signed a new record contract.

“As first reported by Billboard on Jan. 30, the singer is reteaming with Antonio L.A. Reid for a multi-album deal that would begin with a greatest-hits set to coincide with her upcoming residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.”

All this good publicity comes at a great time for Carey. Last year, her performance at the Rockefeller Center was a disaster. She was recently ridiculed for a performance in Jamaica, where she couldn’t even lip-sync her hits correctly. ET described the disaster.

“It’s safe to say Mariah Carey didn’t have one of her best performances at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival Friday night. The 44-year-old diva had more than a little trouble lip-syncing to a few of her biggest hits like ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Always Be My Baby,’ and it was all caught on tape. As the audio plays, Mariah clearly misses her cues, making the fact that she isn’t singing live that much more obvious.”

It has been heavily rumored that Mariah Carey will be taking voice lessons to make sure her vocals are in top shape by the time she starts her Las Vegas residency on May 6. Judging by her performance on Saturday evening, it appears that Mariah Carey may just be ready to go.
