‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Concept Art Shown To Stockholders, Compared To ‘Halo’

Star Wars fans were pleasantly surprised when the series’ first spin-off movie, Rogue One, was announced earlier this week, and initial descriptions of the upcoming film’s concept art have now made their way online.

Rogue One was announced at Disney’s annual shareholder’s meeting in San Francisco, as Movieweb points out, and brief glimpses of concept art for the film were shown. Though none of the artwork has yet been released, those in attendance compared the look of the newest Star Wars film to that of video games like Halo, as Stitch Kingdom reports.

“It was very dark and done in greens, so it evoked the idea that it was being done under the cloak of night. Dozens of figures in fatigues appeared to be storming something with a strange helicopterish vehicle (open on the sides) in the background, releasing more troops.”

Daniel Miller, a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, was also on hand at the event, and he revealed through Twitter that the Rogue One concept art depicted soldiers that could be identified neither as Imperial nor Rebel forces.

Though no plot details have yet been revealed for Rogue One, rumors have abounded that the film will center on bounty hunters attempting to obtain the plans for the original Death Star. Though the title would seemingly indicate that the movie is set to focus on the x-wing squadron famous in Star Wars lore, it is unclear at what point in the series’ chronology the film is set. Some rumors have even suggested that the film could include Han Solo and Boba Fett, though those assertions remain unconfirmed.

Star Wars: Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards, as the Inquisitr previously reported, from a script that was penned by Chris Weitz. Felicity Jones, who recently garnered an Academy Award nomination for her performance in The Theory Of Everything, has been cast as Rogue One‘s lead.

Star Wars: Rogue One is scheduled for release on December 16, 2016, just one year after The Force Awakens.
