WWE News: Dolph Ziggler Wants To Make The Intercontinental Title Relevant Again — Says It Needs To Be Defended More Often

There’s no question that the WWE Intercontinental Title hasn’t meant very much for the better part of the last decade, and former multi-time Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler wants to change that. Actually, in Ziggler’s opinion, he changed the perception of the Intercontinental Title before he lost it to Bad News Barrett back in January.

Dolph Ziggler was a guest on Ring Rust Radio earlier this week, and was asked about the current state of the Intercontinental Title, and what WWE needs to do to make in relevant again. In Ziggler’s opinion, the Intercontinental Title needs to be defended a lot more often than it is right now, and truly once again become the WWE’s “workhorse title.”

“Well to restore prestige, you’d have to do something similar to what I did a couple of months ago. I finally beat Miz for the title, and then constantly, The Authority wanted to take it off me. So it became that much more exciting because every Monday, every Thursday, every weekend, every pay-per-view I was defending that title. They were trying to stick it to me, and you didn’t know if I was going to win it or if I was going to lose it because the odds were stacked against me.

So when I had that title, I was always wanting to defend it, tell Triple H to call whoever he wants, have him at ringside, because the more I defended it, it slowly began to gain prestige as a title that wasn’t just a workhorse title, but a title that was going to be defended sometimes, and that’s what needs to happen.”

Ziggler will have his shot to win the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania, where he’s one of seven WWE superstars competing in a ladder match for that very title.

There were many people who wanted to see Dolph Ziggler take on Daniel Bryan in a one-on-one match at WrestleMania, as a lot of WWE fans felt that a match between Bryan and Ziggler would likely steal the show. There’s still a chance the two could work against each other at some point down the road, as both Ziggler and Bryan are heavily favored to win the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania.

Ziggler is a four-time Intercontinental Champion, and three of those title reigns took place late last year, with his longest reign lasting for 56 days, from September 22 to November 17, where he lost to Luke Harper.
