‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Hulk Vs. Iron Man Scene Explained

Avengers: Age of Ultron is guaranteed to have a number of set pieces that’ll blow fans’ minds, but one that’s had them guessing from the get-go is the Hulk vs. Iron Man fight that was peppered throughout each of the trailers. But why are the two Avengers hashing it out on screen in such a dangerous fashion? Rumors were flying left and right, some about Hulk losing control and others about Ultron hacking into Iron Man’s A.I. But which is it?

Well, we have an explanation for it now, courtesy of Stitch Kingdom (via Screen Rant). Disney recently had an investors meeting, and in fact, you may have already heard some of the big news pieces to come from it (Star Wars: Rogue One and Frozen 2 were the major ones). On top of this news, however, Disney also showed footage from the Hulk and Iron Man fight from Avengers: Age of Ultron.

I think it goes without saying that if you don’t want to be spoiled for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, you should stop reading now.

Hulkbuster Armor
Iron Man hops into the Hulkbuster armor.

In this fight, it looks like Hulk’s the antagonist. After falling under the control of Scarlet Witch, Hulk goes rampant on the streets. Iron Man steps in, first trying to console Banner, saying, “‘The witch is messing with your brain. You’re smarter than her, you’re Bruce Banner.” All the talking is ultimately fruitless, and only when an arm piece from the Hulkbuster armor attaches to Hulk is Stark able to carry him off.

While this isn’t the biggest reveal, the implications are huge. It’s been speculated that by the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hulk would be shot into space following a catastrophic rampage. However, as revealed in this explanation, Hulk is under the control of Scarlet Witch. Furthermore, it’s revealed in the trailer that Scarlet Witch joins forces with the Avengers, as is evidenced by the clip of her fighting back-to-back with them against the Ultron bots.

'Avengers'
In this shot from the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, you can see Scarlet Witch fighting alongside Hulk and the others.

It’s also important to note that Hulk is also doing a lot of fighting in the very same shot. Does this mean Hulk will, in fact, be on the right side of the fight by the film’s end? With Scarlet Witch on their side, he wouldn’t be a danger to anyone anymore. That is unless Banner decides himself that he’s too dangerous and leaves Earth on his own accord at the film’s conclusion.

We’ll find out the truth soon enough. Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015. Will you be there?
