Andy Samberg Selected To Host The Emmy Awards

It’s official — the Emmys has its next host. Brooklyn Nine-Nine and SNL alum Andy Samberg was handpicked to host the ceremony.

According to E!, the announcement was made this afternoon via Samberg himself. In the statement, the comedian sounded excited about the new opportunity to try out his hosting duties.

“Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers! Like, in general you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road. Also, if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I’m hosting, and it’s gonna be a wild ride. So buckle your seat belts.”

While Samberg was at Saturday Night Live he was a highlight among his cast. He was mostly known for his short videos with his comedy rap group The Lonely Island, which turned out unexpected hits like Emmy winner “D**k in a Box” and “I’m On A Boat.”

Fans are already expecting Andy Samberg to kill it at the Emmys.

Last year another SNL alum, Seth Meyers, hosted the awards show. While Meyers hasn’t put out a statement about the decision, he did have a lot to say about the hosting duties back in August. The Late Night host told Vulture at the time how he saw the role of host.

“I feel I’m as good as my jokes, so I’m calling in a lot of favors, just people who can help with a really good monologue. That really is half of it, if not more. By definition the host really welcomes you, and then after that you’re really just facilitating.”

As far as who he called on for help, Meyers kept it in the family.

“I feel I’m as good as my jokes, so I’m calling in a lot of favors, just people who can help with a really good monologue. That really is half of it, if not more. By definition the host really welcomes you, and then after that you’re really just facilitating.”

We wonder if Andy Samberg will do the same?
