New ‘Mortal Kombat X’ Trailer Visits The Cage Family [Video]
A new Mortal Kombat X trailer has hit, and it seems to be going after the comedic side of the game. It was previously revealed that Cassie Cage is the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, and now the parents are getting in on the action once more.
It seems Cage and Sonya are back, probably the most athletic people you’ll find at their age since their daughter is 20-years-old. According to the trailer, they were married once and had one child, but the marriage didn’t last.
Long-time fans of the game series probably aren’t surprised that Cage and Sonya are now divorced. Their relationship had always been strenuous at best, with Johnny Cage’s ego constantly clashing with Sonya Blade’s sense of duty.
That fact is revealed in the Mortal Kombat X trailer when Sonya asks Cage about the “update from Colonel Flagg,” to which Cage replies with pure sarcasm.
“He said, ‘Why are you bothering me?,’ and I said, ‘Because my ex-wife is a pain…'”
Then we get a montage of Cage and Sonya fighting alongside Scorpion and Quan Chi.
Apparently, the Cage family is the dysfunctional heart of the Mortal Kombat X story this time, with even Cassie stating, “Well, if they don’t kill us, my mother will.”

The idea that so many classic characters are returning 20 years later begs the question of how old they will all get before NetherRealm stops recycling them. Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade must be in their 40s by now, at the youngest.
Again, the video goes for the humor as Cage shows off one of his fatalities on Scorpion, tearing his body in half at the chest, looking through and quipping, “Here’s Johnny.”
