‘Suicide Squad’ Movie Cast: Who Could Land The Role Of Deathstroke?

The Suicide Squad movie is still in the planning phases, as even the cast hasn’t been decided yet. So far, we know that Will Smith (Independence Day), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), Viola Davis (The Help), Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream), and Jai Courtney (Divergent) are planned to star, but the role of Deathstroke is still undecided.

That decision could be made soon though, as the last actor to join the Suicide Squad cast has spawned a solid rumor.

Deathstroke is probably the most directly mirrored character in the DC Comics universe, with Marvel barely even changing his name to add to their own bunch. Slade Wilson, a contract killer known for his lethality, is also known for his half red (sometimes yellow), half black outfit. Wade Wilson is Marvel’s Deadpool, known for a similar job and outfit, though the Marvel version is more of a parody.

The Suicide Squad movie is one of the most ambitious projects in Warner Bros.’ upcoming lineup, with Will Smith hoping for a big-screen comeback as the bulls-eye marksman Deadshot. Jared Leto and Margot Robbie are facing even higher expectations as the first to represent the Joker and Harley Quinn on the big screen.

Joe Manganiello has been rumored to be the sixth member, playing the role of Deathstroke. Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) is expected as a replacement, but Cinema Blend says that Joe has the role if he wants it.

Deathstroke won’t be Joe’s first role as a character in a superhero movie if he accepts, having played Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. He is best known for his portrayal as Alcide Herveaux in True Blood. Following in the footsteps of Arrow’s Manu Bennett in the same role, Joe could have his own expectations to fulfill.

As Warner Bros. and DC Comics begin their bid to take on Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can only expect the stakes to get higher. Marvel already has a head start of several years and several successful films, and the Suicide Squad movie is a bold prospect.

The Suicide Squad release date is expected to hit on August 5, 2016, with filming to start this month.
