WWE News: The Real Reason Why WWE Wants To Sign Brock Lesnar So Bad, WWE Feels UFC Is Now Major Competition?

It is said that WWE has been trying to sign current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar for some time now. However, they have gotten far more serious with it the last few months as the contract is now close to over. Lesnar and Vince McMahon got into a heated argument a couple weeks ago at a WWE RAW taping. It was said to have gone so bad that people feared for Vince’s life and Lesnar ended up walking out.

As we saw this past week on WWE RAW, Lesnar appears to be back to work the rest of his program for WrestleMania 31. However, WWE is still attempting to get Lesnar to re-sign with them and there is still hope among some in WWE that they can get the deal done. What many want to know is: Why? Why is WWE trying so hard to sign a man who works only a few times a year?

Sure, Brock is popular. Yet is he so big that he will go down as someone WWE “has” to have? Now according to Cageside Seats, we know the answer.

WWE feels that they have to sign Lesnar because if they don’t, he’ll end up going to UFC. Which we are aware of. However, WWE feels by doing this, UFC will then become direct competition to them. They share a similar fan base, and in knowing that WWE does not want to lose fans to the UFC. WWE has repeatedly said that UFC was not competition in the past but their actions have said otherwise.

Not only have they added UFC to their no-compete clause, but they have also not allowed WWE Superstars or WWE Divas to appear at UFC in any way. CM Punk once asked to walk someone out at a UFC PPV but it was blocked by Vince. At the time, no one knew why. However, it might go back to the paranoia in WWE that UFC will compete against them.

Lesnar Heyman

Honestly, UFC cannot be competition to WWE directly. UFC cannot deliver multiple hours of television weekly with their best talent. They cannot do a PPV each month with their best talent either. This is why the UFC PPVs do well but have done nowhere near WWE PPV numbers….except for one period of time. When UFC had Brock Lesnar, they broke their PPV records and made millions off of him.

This was the only time UFC managed to get close to WWE PPV numbers, however Brock cannot be on every PPV fighting. While it is possible for him to do so, it is unlikely. WWE and UFC also never directly compete on the same day for anything really. WWE PPVs are on Sunday and UFC’s are on Saturday. UFC also does random shows on either a Friday or Saturday night. None of which compete with WWE programming now. Even when it did, it was not against WWE’s major program.

So losing Lesnar to the UFC does help UFC. Does it make them competition to WWE though? Probably not.

The Wrestling Observer reports that WWE and Lesnar have still not come close to a deal and it remains unlikely Lesnar will re-sign. However, do not be surprised if WWE tries everything they can to get him to stay. There is a thought among some fans that Lesnar could pull a big power play in order to get his way and stay from it. What type of power play that is however, is unknown.
