Video Games Releases For The Week Of March 15, 2015

Battlefield: Hardline is the undisputed heavy weight for the week for new video game releases. The spinoff entry into EA’s Battlefield franchise takes the action away from a generic war setting to a cops and robbers setting, although the cops and robbers are as well armed as a small army. If you find yourself looking for a more natural setting, Cabela’s African Adventures makes its debut on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this week as well, and RPG fans will be receiving a Final Fantasy title in the states for the first time with Type-0.

Visceral Games, known for their successful Dead Space action-horror series, is stretching their vision with Battlefield: Hardline after having provided some of the DLC for Battlefield 3. Battlefield: Hardline breaks away from the traditional game play of the series that has focused on modern combat settings. While the series has had competent single-player campaigns, they have always been second string to the popular multiplayer. Battlefield: Hardline will feature a police vs. criminals setting complete with the Levolution mechanic introduced in Battlefield 4. Game modes confirmed for the release include Crosshair, Rescue, Hotwire Mode, Blood Money, and Heist.

Square Enix is releasing an older PSP game, Final Fantasy Type-0, for the latest console generation that originally never made it out of Japan. Originally released in 2001, this new HD port will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Final Fantasy Type-0 is part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series of games, which feature comment elements such as deities tied to the mythical crystals that have been part of the Final Fantasy series in a good many of the games. While this specific subset does not include games that are directly related to each other, they do share the common themes. The forthcoming Final Fantasy XV is another title in the same universe.

The HD port of Type-0 includes the normal bells and whistles you would expect, such as improved textures, improved gameplay, and so on. Four modes of difficulty are included, adding “Easy” as an option, which was not available on the PSP version. Multiplayer elements in the game were also stripped out making the game single player only for the western audience. Abilities like magic that were only available in multiplayer were incorporated into the single-player game.
