Jill Duggar’s latest baby shower venue might shock a few 19 Kids and Counting fans — she and hubby Derick Dillard recently broke breadsticks at Olive Garden.
On Sunday, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard celebrated the coming of Baby Dilly at one of the Italian-American restaurants near their home in Arkansas. Most people wouldn’t see anything weird about a married couple spending time with their friends and family at an Olive Garden, but one of Jill’s Instagram followers was surprised to see the 19 Kids and Counting star and her husband at the eatery.
“Doesn’t Olive Garden donate to Planned Parenthood?” the commenter wrote after Jill Duggar shared the photo below.
Olive Garden is a subsidiary of Darden Restaurants. According to xoJane, Darden is one of the companies named in “The Boycott List,” a document created by an anti-abortion organization called Stop Planned Parenthood (STOPP). The document lists companies that donate money to Planned Parenthood, and STOPP asks anti-abortion activists like the Duggars to boycott these companies.
Well, the Olive Garden Media & Communications team chimed in with the following, via email, which calls that info into question.
“As we have shared previously, neither Olive Garden nor Darden Restaurants has any documentation of a donation to Planned Parenthood. Rather, our company strives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others through programs such as Olive Garden Harvest. Through the Harvest program, every Olive Garden across the country donates fresh, wholesome food to a local food bank on a weekly basis. Last year, Olive Garden donated more than 3 million pounds of food to those in need.”
It’s no secret that Jill Duggar’s family members aren’t fans of Planned Parenthood — evidence of their hatred of the organization can be seen in the Washington Post video below. During a 2012 appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Michelle Duggar called Planned Parenthood “the leading organization that performs abortions.” She struggled to keep a smile plastered on her face while expressing her disappointment that the Susan G. Komen Foundation had decided to continue funding the non-profit organization that provides breast cancer screenings and reproductive health services for women.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, the family likely frequents Chick-fil-A because the company’s chief operating officer, Dan Cathy, supports anti-gay marriage groups. Jill Duggar even thinks that there will be Chick-fil-A in heaven.
However, Jill’s Olive Garden outing isn’t the first time a Duggar has enjoyed the services of an establishment that supports a cause that the family actively fights against. Even though Michelle Duggar and Jim Bob Duggar are against same-sex marriage, they’ve gone on Starbucks dates. The Facebook photo below is evidence of their love of the coffee chain.
According to CNN, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is an avid supporter of gay rights, and he and his company backed a Washington State bill to legalize same-sex marriage. The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) responded by calling for a boycott of the company. According to E! News, the Duggars were part of the anti-gay marriage “Faith, Family, Freedom” bus tour that was co-sponsored by NOM.
According to Jill Duggar’s Instagram, Derick Dillard’s church threw the shower.
“Thank you @OliveGarden and Derick’s church family for the baby shower today!” Jill wrote. “We were so blessed! #babydilly #OliveGarden #babyshower.”
The event was Jill and Derick’s second baby shower. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Derick’s Wal-Mart coworkers also helped the Dillards prepare for Baby Dilly’s arrival by showering them with gifts. However, Jill still hasn’t received that Dr. Pepper that she asked for.
