Leonardo DiCaprio Partners with Netflix For New Docu-Series

Leonardo DiCaprio is well-known for his critically-acclaimed movies, but his other passion lies within preserving the environment. Now, he’s teamed up with Netflix to produce a green documentary and docu-series, focusing on environmental conservation.

According to Fortune, the full-length documentary and docu-series, backed by DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, is a non-fiction feature that is slated to stream exclusively on Netflix.

DiCaprio recently tweeted about his collaboration with Netflix, and seems excited to embark on the new project.

This isn’t the first time DiCaprio partnered with Netflix. In 2014, the Titanic star teamed up with Netflix to produce Virunga, an Academy award-winning documentary that details the work of the Virunga National Park’s rangers and how they fervently tried to save and protect the park’s mountain gorillas.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, is thrilled to work with DiCaprio again on the project, Variety reports.

“This partnership is a natural extension of our incredible relationship with Leo on Virunga. We look forward to building on our shared success with more thought-provoking, high-quality documentaries and docu-series.”

The documentary and docu-series aims to educate people not only on conservation issues, but hopes to spread knowledge regarding the endangered animal population. These topics, although extremely important and dear to DiCaprio, are often unobserved or disregarded.

For numerous years, DiCaprio has worked as an environmentalist and an equal rights promoter. He’s donated generously to environmental groups and gay rights organizations, including the Wildlife Conservation Society and GLAAD.

In 2010, he won the VH1 “Do Something Award” for his long-term environmental work. His website, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, continuously provides pertinent information on ecological issues, such as preserving biodiversity, disaster relief, ocean conservation, preventing animal extinction, and more.

DiCaprio feels that the new collaboration with Netflix will help boost information about issues that he holds so dear.

“Through this partnership with Netflix, I hope to give documentary film-makers doing urgent and important work the chance to have their films seen immediately by audiences all around the world.”

Meanwhile, DiCaprio’s personal life is being hit with a whirlwind of speculation and rumors. The Satellite award-winning actor is apparently friends, or at least acquaintances, with singer and actress Rihanna.

Pictures recently surfaced of the pair hanging out at Rihanna’s birthday party. Rumors of the duo being in a relationship were already circulating, but many believe the photos of the two superstars are evidence that they are more than just friends. Yet, neither Rihanna or DiCaprio have commented on the hearsay.

Along with his project with Netflix, Leonardo DiCaprio is also starring in the upcoming movie, The Revenant, scheduled for limited release on December 25, 2015.
