Tracy Morgan: I Haven’t Seen My Mom in 11 Years

Tracy Morgan caught some criticism when news broke that he wasn’t going to help his mom avoid foreclosure. The “30 Rock” star released a statement today to explain the situation, saying that he hasn’t seen his mother in more than a decade.

E! reports that Tracy has refused to give his mother anything more than a one-time payment of $2000. His mother, Alicia Warden, currently owes close to $25,000 on her Ohio home.

The story broke when Tracy’s sister Asia told the New York Daily News:

“Because of the way he’s treating our mother, all bets are off. He’s never been a nice person and money’s just made it worse.”

Forbes estimates that Morgan is currently worth about $18 million. Still, the 43-year-old comedian doesn’t plan on helping out his family. Morgan said in a statement today:

“I am saddened that these untrue stories about me have people questioning my commitment to my family. For reasons that are between us, I have not seen my Mother in 11 years and outside of a random call here and there have had little to no contact with my sister. We all have personal family issues that we have to deal with in life, but I choose to deal with mine in private and not through the media.”

Do you think Tracy Morgan should help out his mother regardless of their personal situation? $25,000 doesn’t seem like too much to spend for the “30 Rock” star, but for Morgan, this really isn’t an issue about money. Tracy added:

“As of this moment, I’m estranged from my own mother and most of my family, and I’m not sure that’s going to change much. I’m not saying why, I’m just saying that’s how it is. It’s okay though. I’ve gotten used to it. I’m an island, kind of like Antigua: hot and humid, definitely a destination of choice if you want to get freaky or just kick back. And pretty isolated.”

Do you think Tracy Morgan should bail out his mother?
