Avery Brooks, ‘Star Trek’ Actor, Arrested for DUI

A former Star Trek captain has found himself in trouble with the law for drunk driving.

Avery Brooks, best known for his lead role as Captain Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, was arrested for DUI in Wilton, Connecticut this past Sunday evening.

According to a report by TMZ, Brooks, 63, was pulled over after local police received a complaint that the actor was driving erratically. The American History X star was then reportedly taken into custody after refusing to take a breathalyzer test.

Brooks has since been released from custody.

He is set to be arraigned in state court on February 9. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 6 months in jail.

Despite the seriousness of Brooks’ DUI charge, it should be noted that first-time offenders most likely end up with probation.

Before starring on Deep Space Nine for all of its seven seasons, Brooks played Hawk on Spenser: For Hire and in subsequent Spenser TV movies (and in a short-lived spinoff in 1989), and most recently voiced Sisko for the Star Trek: Legacy video game.
