‘Paris Hilton: Hollywood?’ Follows Kim Kardashian’s Footsteps, Gets Her Own Mobile Game

Paris Hilton is getting her own mobile game. Animoca Brands, a Hong-Kong based mobile game development company announced Tuesday that they struck a deal with the socialite to license the name of Paris Hilton for a new mobile game that’s based on her. Maybe a Paris Hilton: Hollywood edition will be arriving soon to mobile devices.

This obviously sounds like a great idea since Paris Hilton is still a well-known name in pop culture. Animoca Brands’ CEO Robby Yung appears to agree, in his interview with GameSpot.

“With Paris’ eye for what’s hot in the latest trends, and our experience at making popular mobile games, we are confident that consumers around the world will be receptive to Paris Hilton mobile games and themes.”

Don’t expect a Paris Hilton mobile game just yet. The company said that they will develop an upcoming Paris Hilton video game, prior to the mobile game. They want to build items under her brand for purchase before making a full game. Yung did not state what genre Hilton’s new game will be.

Paris Hilton already has her name on a game, according to Tech Frag. Paris Hilton’s Diamond Quest launched in 2006 from Gameloft, but it wasn’t a mobile game that was featured on all devices. The Diamond Quest game also didn’t have as many branding opportunities as the one Animoca will have available.

Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is “taking the mobile world by storm,” according to AdWeek. The reality star was featured on this month’s issue. The game has been downloaded over 28 million times and has been played for a total of 11 billion minutes, according to the source. Glu Mobile reportedly earned more than $74 million last year, thanks to the popularity of Kim’s game.

AdWeek asked Kardashian what she credits the success of the game to.

“Something that really worked in the game that was kind of an accident are the updates. [For example], your character can go on vacation to Mexico, and that’s one of the places that I go all the time.

“I actually didn’t know the date of the launch, but I happened to be going to Mexico on the same day. Once I started posting pictures through Instagram that I was in Mexico, everyone was playing along [and saying], ‘I just updated my game, and I’m in Mexico with you.’ They would literally get a bikini like the one I had Instagrammed in a photo.

“People thought we were doing that on purpose and that it was planned, and it wasn’t. We realized that it worked so well because we are in such good communication—myself and the Glu team—to make updates in real time. I try to tell them as far in advance of when I know I have a trip planned, and we try to get as many lifelike things that I’m actually doing to really happen in the game so you can play along with my real life.”

Animoca, like Glu Mobile, will also follow a “fremium” strategy that utilizes advertising, in-app purchases and free game downloads. It’s unclear whether Hilton’s new game will also model closely after the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game.

A mobile game is not all that Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian have in common. Both socialites got their start on reality TV. Paris starred in The Simple Life, alongside Nicole Richie, while Kim stars in Keeping Up With the Kardashians, alongside the Jenner-Kardashian clan. Not to mention, the Kardashian have many spin-offs including Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons, Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, and Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

Hilton and Kardashian both became famous when their sex tapes were leaked to Vivid Entertainment. Hilton’s ex-boyfriend Rick Soloman shot the footage for One Night In Paris, while Kardshian’s ex-boyfriend Ray J allegedly shot the footage for Kim K Superstar.

Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian also have their own line of fragrances. Paris’ fragrances have generated $2 billion in sales, while Kim’s has reportedly earned less.

Do you think Paris Hilton’s new game will be as successful as Kim Kardashian: Hollywood?
