How Gamers Rock The ‘Dragon Ball Xenoverse’ To Unlock All Characters

With the release of Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse, players are clamoring to unlock every single character. The game’s roster includes over 40 playable characters and this guide will show you how to get them.

As is the running trend with games in the fighting genre, several characters are going to be made available as downloadable content that you can either purchase or obtain for free as part of a special promotion. According to an official Bandai Namco Tumblr post, Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta is available for free as a Day One Edition bonus. Even if you did not pre-order, a redemption code for Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta has been made available in all Day One Edition copies of Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

These packs will include characters and other goodies. Confirmed for the first pack are Dragon Ball GT Goku, Pan, and Trunks. Also confirmed for the third pack is Jaco the Space Patroller.

Thankfully, the majority of Dragon Ball Xenoverse characters are hidden in the game itself and do not require additional downloads or purchases. About 46 hidden characters can be unlocked using four easy-to-remember, albeit time-consuming, steps.

Step 1: Beat the main story mode

The bulk of your Xenoverse character unlocks will occur just by playing through the game’s campaign. Popular characters like Adult Gohan, Android 17, Final Form Frieza, Future Trunks, Hercule, Krillin, Majin Buu, Perfect Cell, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Videl can all be unlocked using this method.

Step 2: Collect the Time Chasm Crystal Shards

There are five Time Shards you will need to collect by completing specific challenges. Finding them will put you on the path to unlocking both Broly and Bardock. One Shard is obtained by beating Demigra. Another is rewarded after completing Parallel Quest #49. An easy Shard can be found by speaking with an NPC named Recon in Toki Toki City. Finally, you can earn two more Shards by scoring an ultimate finish on Parallel Quest #2, 14, 18, 21, 32, or 42. After collecting all the Shards, the Legendary Super Saiyan Saga will unlock. Complete the saga to unlock additional Parallel Quests, Bardock and Broly.

Step 3: Complete the Parallel Quests

There are 55 total Parallel Quests. Vegito unlocks after completing Parallel Quest #37. However, to unlock Super Saiyan 4 Goku, you need to have every single Parallel Quest beat.

Step 4: Make Three Wishes

If you collect all seven Dragon Balls, Shenron will appear and grant you a single wish. Omega Shenron, Super 17 and Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta are three characters that can only be unlocked by wishing for them. That means you’ll have to collect the Dragon Balls three times to unlock these characters. Doing so can be tedious but several players have found shortcuts to easily farm all seven Dragon Balls.

According to YouTube user Rhymestyle, one of the fastest Dragon Ball farming methods is to replay Parallel Mission #15, defeat Frieza quickly and then take out the Time Patroller who appears.

YouTube user ShadowStormIV recommends running through Parallel Mission #2, instead.

Whichever Parallel Mission is the quickest and easiest for you to cause a Time Patroller to appear is your best bet. After collecting all seven Dragon Balls, wish for one of the secret characters and repeat until you have unlocked them all. In the course of beating all the Parallel Missions for Super Saiyan 4 Goku in Step 3, you should have collected some Dragon Balls already. That is part of the reason why going after Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, Super 17 and, Omega Shenron is recommended as the last step in your character collecting journey.

As a word of caution, according to the official Dragon Ball Xenoverse Facebook page, server issues occurring “mainly on PlayStation 4” have been a consistent issue since launch. Some players are reporting missing achievements, trophies, and character unlocks as a result of server issues. As of March 1, Bandai Namco is working on improving server performance and promises to “post regularly” regarding the improvements. Utilizing the game’s “Offline” mode or signing out of PSN/Xbox Live are alternative options, which may or may not resolve these issues. Unfortunately, waiting for the server fix may be the only option for players whose progress is hindered by these technical issues.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
