Extremely Rare British Coin Dating Back To 1643 Expected To Fetch $75,000 At Auction

When it comes to old coins, the British have some very rare and very old specimens which these days are worth a lot more than they were hundreds of years ago.

A solid silver one pound coin, dating back to 1643 around the time of the start of the English Civil War, is about to go to auction and what’s more, it is expected to fetch a staggering $75,000!

What is even better about the rare British coin is the fact that it is a family heirloom that has been passed from generation to generation and is only now being sold.

The coin in question was made when the new mint was set up in London, under the auspices of King Charles 1.

The words on the back of the coin reads, “Let God arise and let His enemies be scattered,” which at the time was a reference to the fact that Charles believed in the philosophy of the “absolute monarch.”

A coin specialist and auctioneer at Duke’s Auctioneers in Dorset, told reporters about the rare British coin.

“This coin marked Charles I’s attempts to regain his failing power and it represents a pivotal moment in the history of the British Isles. It is a coin which is rare to find and it will cause a stir in the coin collecting world. The value of coins from this period are at an all-time high, and it will be highly sought after. The coin has been handed down through several generations to the current owner, who had no idea of its value and is as excited about the auction as I am. It is fair to say that 1643 was a crucial year in the history of the Civil War and it is fascinating to think that this coin was produced by hand, in silver, at such a tumultuous time.”

The auction of the coin takes place on March 12, and it remains to be seen if it will fetch the valued price of $75,000 or if, perhaps, a keen collector will bid more.
