What is the start time for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, and will you be able to watch the race live online?
If you prefer to watch NASCAR live online from the comfort of your computer chair, then you’ll be in luck. Fox is offering streaming video of the season’s second big race (links below).
Start time for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 is 1 p.m. ET from Atlanta Motor Speedway. The full starting lineup for the race can be found here.
The race already has stirred up a bit of controversy after 13 drivers did not post qualifying times on Friday when their cars didn’t make it through inspection at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR delayed the start of qualifying for 15 minutes after several crews had problems, but the first round had completed by the time the 13 made it through inspection.
A number of big names missed out on qualifying, including Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Matt Kenseth.
Gordon, who will now start 35th, wasn’t happy about the developments.
“We were excited about qualifying today,” he told ESPN. “I felt like we had a shot at being up front. This is just absolutely ridiculous.”
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Director Richard Buck defended the decision, saying the teams were looking to game an advantage and crossed the line.
“Their job is to push it to that very limit,” Buck said. “Our job is to treat everybody fairly and give everybody an opportunity to come through that inspection room. But their responsibility is to come through there right but to the limit. I think that’s what you saw today, was everybody pushing the limits.”
Fans who watch the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 live online will have a chance to see last week’s winner rise to the top again. Joey Logano, who opened the NASCAR season last week with a win in the Daytona 500, won the pole position for Sunday’s race and said he’s filled with hope going into the race.
“Hopefully, we’ll finish where we start. It’s been an amazing few weeks if you think about the Daytona 500 and everything that comes along with that, and then coming down here to Atlanta and starting first is special, especially for me here at this race track. I remember sitting in the corner and watching drivers up here talking about their qualifying run and racing Legends cars out front here for years, so there are a lot of memories here. You guys see the picture over there (in the Media Center) when you walk in with David (Ragan) and Reed (Sorenson) when we were young and racing here. Obviously, anything to be in Victory Lane here; it’s a very special place for me. I don’t know what’s going on lately. Everything is going well and we’re just trying to keep the old train rolling here. It’s going great and we’ll see what happens on Sunday.”
NASCAR fans who want to see who takes the checkered flag at the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 can watch live online at Fox Sports Go, though registration is required. NASCAR will also be offering live coverage of the Atlanta Motor Speedway race through Raceview, which is available for $9.95 per month.
