Octavia Spencer: “I Am Not Healthy”

Octavia Spencer had plenty to celebrate on Sunday after The Help star won a Screen Actors Guild Award for best supporting actress but she says while she’s happy about the honor she wants to get healthy.

Speaking backstage at the awards show the 39-year-old actress noted:

“I am not healthy at this weight.” She went on to add, “Any time you have too much around the middle, then there is a problem. [And] when you reach a certain weight, you are less valuable.”

Even with her want to lose weight Octavia says that Hollywood needs to be more accepting of actresses of all sizes, even extra thing girls who have wasted away under the Hollywood spotlight.

Spencer goes on to point out that society has placed current stigmas on looks while added:

“I feel for the overly thin women as much as I do for the overweight women. It … has to change.”

She goes on to joke with People Style Watch:

“If more women ate, they would be a lot happier.”While adding,”Let me tell you, I am a lot grumpier when I don’t eat.”

The actress isn’t just standing up for weight, she was recently praised by domestic workers for her Golden Globes speech which specifically praised them and the hard work they do every single day. Her message was right in line with the message portrayed in The Help.

Do you think Octavia Spencer has a good point about the stigmas placed on weight by society and by association Hollywood as a whole?
