Tom Hanks Is Not Proud Of His Son’s Rap Lyrics

Tom Hanks’ children have embarked on their own careers. His son, Colin, has established himself as a very capable actor as evidenced on his recent stint in the TV adaptation of Fargo. He has a daughter named Elizabeth who is a writer. Now, Hanks’ son Chet is focusing on his music career. Chet Hanks, who goes by the name of Chet Haze, has released a few singles. And while the videos he has posted online are shared with the intent of making fun of him, Tom Hanks revealed that he is actually proud of what Chet has accomplished. However, Tom did say that he is not a fan of the foul language that Chet uses in his hip-hop songs.

“I can’t honestly say I love to hear some of the language in it but that’s not just his stuff, that’s a lot of other people’s as well.”

Hanks spoke with the New York Daily News about his children and their respective careers. He said of Chet’s foray into hip-hop, “What I love about my kid is that he’s doing it. A lot of people sit around and wait for the phone to ring and wait for someone to invite them to do it and my kid has done it, he’s been doing it for six years.”

The Philadelphia star revealed that none of his children have approached him for career advice.

“I don’t have any secret knowledge that can help them advance… I always say to them, ‘Send it to me when you think it’s done’ and when they think it’s done they send it to me. I can only be a fan of what they’ve created. I’ve got no secrets to impart to anybody. I wish I did.”

An article for Bustle written by Kat George blasted Chet and his video for the song “Thirst”, calling it the “worst video we’ve ever seen”. George wrote, “You’d think that when your dad’s specialty is making iconic works of watchable art — and you know the world will be watching whatever you attempt to do — you would make sure your own creative endeavors are pretty solidly good.”

She added, “Chet’s clearly the dark horse of the family: Not only does brother Colin look exactly like their famous dad, he makes good life decisions like “be in Fargo,” and not decisions like “poorly dance outside Los Angeles strip club in budget video for a song about making a woman’s vagina get drippy.” It’s all about choices, Chet.”
