‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Spoilers: A ‘Sad’ Breakup Strengthens Maura And Jane’s Friendship

Sad times are ahead for Maura on Rizzoli & Isles, but fortunately, she will always have Jane to help her move forward. At least this time, it doesn’t sound like her relationship is going to end like her previous ones have. There can be some hope during heartbreaking times.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Maura and Jack’s relationship is coming to an end soon, and according to TV Guide, that is because Enver Gjokaj is a series regular on ABC’s new series, Agent Carter. However, Rizzoli & Isles isn’t going to suddenly make Jack a killer. Instead, as executive producer Jan Nash has said, this breakup will be a way of just showing what can happen in life.

“Every person she’s tried to date has tried to kill her! We wanted to give her somebody who seemed great, who seemed like he was right. The breakup is not a function of his inability or failures to be in a relationship. The breakup is a function of the circumstances that life brings you. It just feels sad. There’s no other way to describe it.”

Maura is going to lean on Jane in the aftermath of the breakup, and according to Nash, it will strengthen their friendship.

“The inevitability and the tragedy of that will then be a thing that Maura has to get through and Jane will help her. It’s much easer to get over, like, ‘Oh, I really liked him, but he was a serial killer!’ As weird as that sounds! It’s much harder to get over, ‘I really liked him and we can’t be together.”

In another interview with TV Guide, Nash reiterated that it does seem to always come back to Maura and Jane’s friendship.

“Many of the men who’ve come into their lives … have not felt like they were – I don’t want to use ‘worthy’ – but they are not the kind of men you would want these women to be in a relationship with. In the end, they have each other.”

In fact, the season finale is going to see the two on a road trip, and of course, since Rizzoli & Isles is a procedural, there will be a case. However, there will also be a sing-along. Fortunately, that is only a season finale, as TVLine had already reported, Rizzoli & Isles Season 6 is already a go and will be 18 episodes long.

Watch a sneak peek of the next episode, “Foot Loose,” which sees the squad investigate when a severed human foot washes up on shore – and that’s just the first body part.

Rizzoli & Isles Season 5 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on TNT.
