Shonda Rhimes Says Lady Gaga’s Oscars Performance Was ‘Not Okay’

Lady Gaga’s Oscars performance left so many people speechless with her amazing rendition of songs from the iconic musical The Sound of Music. Gaga performed the medley to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary and got rave reviews from everyone, except How To Get Away With Murder creator, Shonda Rhimes.

Rhimes didn’t hold back when commenting about Gaga’s Oscars performance and took to Twitter to voice her opinion. Not only did she refer to Gaga’s Oscars performance as “not okay” but mentioned that perhaps “Let It Go” singer, Idina Menzel, would have been a better choice to sing the medley.

Rhimes also made the mistake of thinking that Julie Andrews didn’t enjoy Gaga’s rendition of the songs she sang so many years ago. While Rhimes wasn’t a fan of the performance, according to the New York Daily News, Julie Andrews appreciated what Gaga had done.

Andrews was reported to tell Gaga, “Thank you for that…It really warmed my heart.”

So what exactly was Rhimes opposed to? No one can really tell, because according to just about everyone else, Gaga did an amazing job. Fans took to Twitter to let Rhimes know just how they felt about her “shady” comments.

Gaga worked hard to prepare for that Oscars performance. According to Entertainment Tonight, Gaga worked with a vocal coach for six months in order to prepare for her big Oscars performance.

Craig Zadan, one of the executive producers for the Oscars, stated, “She worked half a year with a vocal coach every day for half a year to do that.”

The show’s other executive producer, Neil Meron, spoke of Gaga’s hard work and talent and said, “She’s the real deal…She can do anything.”

And despite Shonda Rhimes’ harsh words, the general consensus is that Lady Gaga’s Oscars performance was unforgettable and shows just how talented the “Poker Face” singer really is.
