Amber Portwood Custody: ‘Teen Mom’ Star May Not Get Full Custody Of Daughter

Amber Portwood may be out of prison and doing well, but there are still some things in her life she is working to get together.

When faced with a downward spiral that involved drug abuse, the reality show star decided to go to prison in order to get clean. Prior to that, she signed over custody of her daughter, Leah, to her ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley. Now that she is doing better, she sees her daughter often, but will she ever have custody of her daughter back? Obviously, it is hard to say what the future will hold, but at the moment, Gary Shirley isn’t ready to give up custody to Amber Portwood.

“It’s gonna stay the way it is forever. It’s already been 3 or 4 years since I’ve had custody.”

While watching some past clips from Teen Mom, Gary Shirley made the comment. Of course, he could change his mind in the future, but considering he has had custody of Leah for so long, it makes sense that he would be reluctant to change the custody agreement overnight. However, he did acknowledge that Amber Portwood is doing much better since her stay in prison, according to Wetpaint.

“She’s doing a lot better, she’s not like that anymore. I have to say I’m very proud of Amber because of the difference now. I’m not saying she’s a bad person, I’m not saying that at all. She was dealing with a lot.”

At the time, Amber was going through a lot of issues and most of the tumultuous relationship was shown on Teen Mom. In fact, there was one issue that was shown on air that showed how bad things were between the two, a clip that was shown to Gary. In the clip, Amber is shown hitting Gary.

“Domestic violence dude, ain’t no joke. I should have never got hit. I should have left then. Watching this gets you emotional and you kinda feel the hate you had.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, it was hard for Amber Portwood to be faced with clips from the past, so much so that she chose not to watch.

“I can just see myself completely going down hill. I can’t watch Teen Mom ’cause I’m high the whole time. It wasn’t happy moments of my life at all. It’s like an alcoholic watching back in the day when they’re drunk.”

Teen Mom OG premieres March 23 and will include Amber Portwood.
