Ledisi Plans New CD After Beyoncé Pushes Her Away At Grammys

Ledisi was the original performer of the song “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” from the movie Selma. However, it was alleged that Beyoncé tried to steal Ledisi’s spotlight by demanding to perform that song at this month’s Grammy Awards. The Huffington Post wasn’t happy about Beyoncé‘s alleged move.

“Beyoncé wanted to sing it, and we did not breathlessly await her performance as much as we were left to grudgingly endure it. There’s a larger issue at play than just the swapping of one great singer for another less talented but more popular one. Ledisi, with a crown of enviable braids and beautiful dark skin, was passed over by an artist whose nose job, ten pounds of blonde hair, and suspiciously alabaster skin has no doubt aided in her ascent to the top.”

Ledisi had a classy response according to ABC News, but she was still clearly disappointed.

“But I got over that and I had to look at the positive and empower women. We have to empower each other. It’s a great thing. And one day I’ll be on that Grammy stage. Every artist wants to be on the Grammys stage. That’s part of our career is to be there. So my time will come when it’s time.”

Many on Twitter seemed to think that Ledisi should have performed instead of Beyoncé, but Ledisi shouldn’t be jealous of Beyoncé; she announced a new EP this week and it already garnering a lot of attention. The New Pittsburgh Carrier was one of the first news sources that reported on Ledisi‘s new musical project.

“Grammy nominated powerhouse and Verve Records artist Ledisi announced the release of her new project The Intimate Truth. This seven song EP will feature acoustic performances from her latest full-length album The Truth (March 2014). Fans can pre-order (digital) the album via iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon.”

There is no word yet on whether or not Beyoncé plans to overshadow Ledisi by releasing a “suprise” album the same day, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise people. Beyoncé is still facing a backlash from something that wasn’t her fault: Kanye West complaining about Beck’s Grammy win. According to EurWeb, even 50 Cent believes Beck deserved the Grammy for Album of the Year over Beyoncé.

“He produced the record, wrote the record, it’s eleven producers on Beyoncé’s album. Kanye being a producer and a writer should see that. I don’t think people care about those establishments anymore.

It will be interesting if Ledisi’s career thrives or falters after Beyoncés alleged snub. Do you think Ledisi should have performed at the Grammys instead of Beyoncé? Tell us in the comments section.
