Fifty Shades Of Grey: Actress Christy Carlson Romano Strips Down To Protest The Movie
Fifty Shades of Grey has been stirring up controversy for quite a while now. First people found issue with the books, then again when word broke that the popular book was going to be hitting the big screens. Many believed that the movie wouldn’t do very well, including actress Christy Carlson Romano.
According to Us Weekly, Romano, known for her roles on the Disney series Even Stevens and Kim Possible, was so sure that Fifty Shades of Grey wouldn’t do well in theaters because of its controversial nature that she went ahead and made a bet with her husband Brendan Rooney.
According to the Daily Mail, Romano explained in a YouTube video that the bet revolved around whether or not Fifty Shades of Grey would lose its number one spot in the box office this past weekend.
“I told [Brendan] how terrible it was and how I had major issues with the film, mostly the consent issue and I couldn’t wait to watch it fall off the next box office weekend. Then he laughed and told me he knew it was going to stink but that I shouldn’t get my hopes up because it was definitely going to win the box office this weekend. If he lost he would have to stand out on the freezing cold New York balcony for one full minute wearing only boxers. And if I lost I would stand out on the balcony in lingerie. … And this weekend is one of the coldest in New York City history. So behind me, if you can see, you can’t even see the skyline, the East River is frozen over and it is snowing outside. So ultimately in protest of this misogynistic and misguided film, I’m going to exercise my right of consent and stand outside.”
Viewers then get a nice minute long clip of Romano in her lingerie, struggling against the cold and wind while holding up a sign that read #consent.
When Us Weekly asked Christy Carlson Romano for her thoughts on Fifty Shades of Grey, she claimed that “both the film and the novel blur consent by claiming it’s a grey area, when it’s in fact black and white.”
