Katy Perry did some sightseeing in Italy recently, and revealed her unique perspective on landmarks such as the Tower of Pisa and Michaelangelo’s David. Fresh off her widely acclaimed Super Bowl halftime concert on February 1, Perry took a break to do some traveling — posting her favorite vacation snapshots on her Instagram account.
Katy Perry has been among the celebrities who complained about receiving too much attention from paparazzi — even as she puts on her own sexy exhibitions for the gathered shutterbugs, as she did on her recent Australian tour — but if the “Firework” singer thought that she would somehow fly under the radar with her latest set of Instagram photos from Italy, she was sadly mistaken.
Thanks to their suggestive and irreverent nature, Perry’s photos have gone immediately viral this weekend, and it’s not difficult to see why.
For example, where most people look at the Tower of Pisa — or as it is popularly known, the “Leaning” Tower of Pisa — they see one of the greatest architectural marvels to emerge from medieval Europe, apparently when Perry looks at the spectacular structure, somewhat different thoughts enter her mind.
But Perry was not done there. She also traveled to Florence, center of Europe’s Renaissance beginning in the 14th century. It was in the early 16th century that the famed artist Michaelangelo, only 26-years-old at the time, was commissioned to carve a 14-foot stature of the Biblical hero David, slayer of the giant Goliath, out of a huge block of marble.
Michaelangelo accepted the challenge and went on to create one of the most recognizable works of art in human history, a masterpiece of sculpture, depicting what the artist saw as the ideal male form.
On the other hand, here is how Katy Perry saw fit to appreciate the “David.”
The caption under Perry’s photo at the Tower of Pisa read, “Nailed it.”
Underneath her photo with Michaelangelo’s David, she wrote, “Nailed it II.”
Not all of Perry’s Instagram photos from Italy were quite as racy. The photo at the top of this page looks to be a rather standard tourist snapshot.
But the suggestive pics were certainly well-appreciated by Perry’s fans. As of Saturday night — when Katy Perry was schedule to perform her show in Milan, Italy, — her Pisa photo had accrued 500,000 “likes” from fans — and the photo with Michaelangelo’s David had racked up 528,00 “likes” on Instagram.
