Selena Gomez: Topless V Magazine Shoot Is ‘Purposely Provocative’ & ‘Disturbing’

Selena Gomez made headlines not just for posing topless on the cover of V Magazine, but for looking underage. The pop star shared a snapshot of herself on Instagram looking underage and doe-eyed as she posed topless. Selena included the caption, “It’s here! Stay tuned to @vmagazine for moreeee next month! and thank you @carlynecerfdedudzeele, @inezvinoodh and @jamesfrancotv.”

Some fans and critics were mortified by the V Magazine photo shoot. In fact, they were so mortified that Selena’s photo shoot has been dubbed as “purposely provocative” and “disturbing.”

Aside from Gomez’s provocative photo shoot, fans are shocked over the fact that she looks like a young girl. The images show the 22-year-old singer and actress dressed in juvenile attire, according to Yahoo Celebrity. Some would call the attire Lolita-esque. Gomez posed in red hoop earrings and a polka dot bow in her curly hair. The styling is perhaps a nod to her former life as a Disney child star.

Body image expert Leslie Goldman told Yahoo Celebrity that she thinks Selena’s V Magazine photo shoot was intentional.

“It was purposefully provocative. And that’s what sells magazines. That’s what gets people talking about publications like that. It’s just like the Kim Kardashian naked butt cover.”

Gomez’s photo shoot isn’t breaking the Internet, per se, but the issue is the message that these photos send to young girls and society in general.

“Young girls right now are bombarded with hyper-sexualized images of women. From a very young age, they are growing up thinking, ‘Oh, this is what I am supposed to look like. This is what I’m supposed to do for guys to like me.’ But they don’t understand that Gomez is 22 and of age. These girls look at her and they want to be just like her. They want to be as beautiful as she is.”

Selena has gone under scrutiny from fans on Tuesday. One fan wrote, “How disturbing is @selenagomez’ topless shoot for @vmagazine? She looks like an absolute 12-year-old. What is up with that makeup?”

Another fan wrote, “Selena Gomez’s sexy Lolita V photos are making us a little uncomfortable.”

There were several stylists behind the creepy V Magazine photo shoot. However, it’s been rumored around the Internet that one of the stylists liked several of Gomez’s childhood photos on Instagram. He was inspired by those photos and wanted to recreate them for the shoot.

The Inquisitr recently reported that Selena Gomez was interviewed by James Franco. Inside the magazine, she spoke about her relationship with Justin Bieber. She described their on-again, off-again relationship as “us against the world” and said that “all we had was each other.”
