Katheryn Winnick Would Love To Be ‘Captain Marvel’ Superhero Carol Danvers

The Marvel Universe has a lot of fierce ladies in its cast of characters. And Katheryn Winnick, who is plenty fierce on Vikings, may be the next Carol Danvers in an upcoming all-female Captain Marvel movie.

Winnick, who plays Lagertha in Vikings, has been picked by Marvel fans to play Danvers. The superhero was the first Ms. Marvel in her own series of comic books before she fell in with the X-Men and the Avengers. In an interview with IGN, Winnick said she was all for taking on the role.

“I would love to. Oh wow, there’s so many. I’m such a fan of comic books. I grew up reading them. They were my idols. Like, these characters came to life for me! I don’t think there’s one in particular, either than I would love to play an action hero.”

But the actress put a slight damper on fan’s hopes for her incarnation as the superhero. As Lagertha, Katheryn told the site that she already gets to “kick a** and get to deal real human emotion.” Adding some Captain Marvel action into the mix may be a bit too much, Cinema Blend reported.

That didn’t stop Winnick from posting some fan art of herself in a Captain Marvel costume.

Winnick has some stiff competition — she’ll have to vie with plenty of other actresses who’ve been named as potential contenders for the Danvers role, including Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, and Natalie Dormer. Only time will tell.
