5 Seconds Of Summer Wins ‘Worst Band’ At NME Awards

Most bands winning an award calling them the “worst band” of the year would quickly find a way to ignore the dishonor. 5 Seconds of Summer, however, embraced it.

The NME Awards allows readers of the NME magazine to nominate people for acknowledgment. When 5 Seconds of Summer found out that the readers had nominated them for Worst Band, they didn’t complain and they didn’t sulk. Instead, the boys went to social media to request that their friends and fans vote for them!

5 Seconds of Summer, consisting of Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin, celebrated their win on Twitter.

Clifford, the guitarist, tweeted, “Won the NME worst band award. I’m so damn happy right now. Thx to everyone who voted.” He added the amusing hashtag: #dreamscomingtrue.

Hood and the official 5 Seconds of Summer Twitter account retweeted a fan that was getting in on the joke.

The Twitter fan said, “5sos won worst band I’m so proud of them.”

5 Seconds of Summer joins a couple of well known bands that won the dishonor before them; bands like 1975 and One Direction.

Much like 1975 and One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer is not at all concerned that the Worst Band award might cost them fans. After all, both the bands that came before them have gone on to do great things and attract even more followers.

In fact, 5 Seconds of Summer is back in the studio recording their second album.

The pop-rock group sent a mailout explaining their plans.

“Hiiiiiiii everyone :D,?We’ve just come back from an amazing month off at home in Australia with our friends and families, and now we’re ready to get back in the studio and make 2015 even bigger than last year!! Now we’re more inspired than ever and can’t wait to start writing some new music and begin working on album number two. We’ve got some seriously exciting stuff up our sleeves which we will all share in due time…”

On 5 Seconds of Summer’s next album, they’ve been rumored to be working with some amazing partners. Bands like Sum41 and Good Charlotte have been seen in pictures with the boys in the studio.

5 Seconds of Summer have also been seen working with songwriter Bonnie McKee. McKee is responsible for some of Katy Perry’s hit songs including “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Roar” among them.
