Ellie Goulding In The Running For 10km And Sunday Number One

Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” looks set to stay at No. 1 for the third week running this Sunday, February 22. That is, unless Hozier’s “Take Me To Church” beats her to the finish line.

Goulding’s song, made all the more prominent to listeners as part of the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, is still scraping ahead of The Weeknd’s “Earned It”, also on the FSOG album, which MTV reports climbed six places to No. 4. Ellie better get a move on.

And that’s precisely what the 28-year old singer is doing behind the scenes. Goulding tweeted her intention to run the 10km Nike Women’s race this year, reports Contact Music. The race takes place in London’s Victoria Park on June 21 and Ellie has encouraged all 4.18 million of her Twitter followers to join in. Indeed, running seems to be as much a passion for Goulding’s as it is singing, if not only to improve her already impressive lungs all the more.

“Running is the basis of all the training that I do other than yoga. It gives me a great chance to focus when I am not in the car and I am by myself. If for some reason I couldn’t run any more it would be too much for me to take.”

Well, however June’s race goes, Ellie is certainly in the running – so to speak – to remain No. 1 in the charts, given Fifty Shades of Grey’s ongoing success at the box office. Her boyfriend, Dougie Poynter of McBusted, must be very proud. Poynter’s band is currently supporting One Direction on their tour in Australia, and The Daily Mail reports that Goulding accompanied him in Adelaide this month. It must have been welcome downtime for the singer who, as The Inquisitr reported last week, has more than a slight competitive edge.

“I can never find anyone who wants to run with me other than trainers. I feel like I run pretty fast and everyone’s intimated by me!”

Especially in the music world, it seems. Ellie’s fans may be supportive of “Love Me Like You Do”, but certain others within the industry haven’t been particularly charitable. The Huffington Post reports that Paloma Faith knocked Goulding and her decision to feature on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack quite bluntly. Apparently Ms. Faith forgot that Beyoncé had also made such a choice; twice.

“I found it quite offensive and degrading. If they’d asked me to do the soundtrack I would have said no. Luckily, they didn’t.”

As Ellie Goulding looks set to remain at the top of the charts for the third week running, was this an unfortunate case of sour grapes from Ms. Faith?
