Will Smith Opens Up About Jada Pinkett Smith Relationship: ‘Whatever You Have Is Gonna Die’

Many people had high hopes that Will Smith and his partner of eighteen years, Jada Pinkett Smith, were such a perfect couple that they would grow old together, despite the worrying statistics of Hollywood divorces.

However, Will Smith admitted recently in an interview with The Sun that his marriage to Jada wasn’t everything everyone thought it was cracked up to be.

As he revealed to the publication, in a moment of rare candor, “Whatever you have is gonna die and you are gonna have to rebirth something new. You have to be willing to ride the waves. There’s gonna be some flat days and some stormy days, and that has to be OK.”

For her part, Jada has always spoken about Will in the highest regard, and as well as sharing two kids with the now 46-year-old actor, said previously that Will was a whole lot more to her than just a husband.

As she said to reporters a while back, “We used to have all these rules, [but] as you go on in your relationship, you just get into a flow. Will, to me, encompasses everything. It’s almost as if calling him ‘my husband’ is too small of a word for what he means in my life … I think I had a very stuck idea of what a husband looks like, what a wife should be. Once I broke all of that, a whole new world opened for me and man, oh, man, I got to see him in all his glory. And so that’s what it’s evolved into. And I’m just ecstatic about it.”

As such, the couple have certainly been through some rocky times, but it seems that now they have found a suitable compromise, and even though the marriage “died” at times, it is very much alive and kicking today.
