‘Sister Wives’ Divorce: What’s Really Going On With Meri Brown?

Sister Wives fans still don’t know why Meri Brown divorced Kody so that he could legally marry his younger fourth wife, Robyn, but at least viewers now know when they’ll get an official answer to this question. Unfortunately, it won’t be until next month.

During the last episode of Sister Wives, the divorce topic didn’t come up until the last few minutes of the show. Meri told the TLC camera crew that she had an appointment with a lawyer about a “serious issue that’s going to affect the family.” It turned out that she wanted to discuss the possibility of legally divorcing Kody, and Meri stated that she’s been thinking about doing so for the last five years. She said that she started considering it around the time that Robyn came into the family, and she revealed that a “strange thought process” led her to the divorce decision.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Sister Wives stars haven’t offered a detailed explanation for why Meri Brown divorced Kody last September. The Browns simply stated that they wanted to “legally restructure” their family. In December, Kody legally married fourth wife Robyn.

The Stir is reporting that Meri Brown is not leaving the family — she simply decided to relinquish her legally married status to Robyn so that Kody can provide Robyn’s kids with healthcare. However, Meri recently warned Sister Wives viewers not to believe everything that they read.

It’s not hard to see why some fans think that something more is going on here. During this Sunday’s back-to-back episodes of Sister Wives, viewers saw a few hints that Meri might want to leave now that only child Mariah has left home.

In a 2010 clip that was played during the “Meri – Behind the Scenes” episode, Meri admitted that she sometimes felt like she didn’t want to stay. At the time, she was really struggling with Robyn’s addition to the family. Meri basically told Kody that she only stuck around because she didn’t want to take Mariah away from her family. In another clip, she told Kody that she hadn’t left yet because she had a big family and kids who loved her. She didn’t mention Kody as one of her reasons for remaining with the family.

It’s pretty obvious that Meri and Kody still have issues. During the clip show, he made it clear that he still doesn’t “get it” when he shared his thoughts on Meri’s 2010 comments about wanting to leave. Instead of trying to be sympathetic towards Meri, he complained that she was threatening him by revealing her true feelings about how hard it is to be a sister wife. Kody also accused Meri of trying to trap him when she asked him how he would feel if the tables were turned and she was having sex with another man. He simply refused to try to see things from her point of view.

Other issues were also brought up during the last two episodes of Sister Wives. The anthropology students spoke to Janelle and Meri about the wives’ past problems, and they both admitted that they still don’t get along as well as they should. From the sounds of it, Meri doesn’t care to work on their relationship — she shrugged it off by saying that it’s “too late” for them to form a closer bond.

“I don’t think we’ll ever get that kind of relationship that I thought was possible.”

Janelle also admitted that she and Meri simply shoved their problems behind them instead of dealing with them, and now she’s afraid to talk to Meri about trying to work through their issues.

According to Starcasm, there’s no Sister Wives episode airing this week. Viewers will have to wait until March 1 to find out what exactly is going on. The season finale will begin at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the Sister Wives Tell All special at 9 p.m. ET. You can check out the preview below.

Some Sister Wives viewers may be annoyed by the Browns’ insistence that fans watch the show to find out what’s going on, but the recent interest in the family’s legal restructuring did help them score another season of their TLC series. According to the Wrap, Season 6 of Sister Wives will air in the Fall of 2015.
