‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ Gameplay: Rocksteady Reveals Some Wonderful Toys

The Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay was hinted at once again when Rocksteady gave some ideas what the Dark Knight’s wonderful toys can do this time. Many of the staples will be returning, such as the Batarang, the grapnel gun, and the line launcher, and some new gadgets are most likely on their way.

We’ve known about one of the new gadgets for months now. The Batmobile may be more of a mode of transportation, but that doesn’t make it any less versatile than most of Batman’s arsenal. Rocksteady Social Marketing Manager Gaz Deaves revealed some of the enticing aspects of the iconic car.

“Batman’s car is such an important part of his identity and it’s been interpreted so differently by so many different writers and creators. We really felt this sense of obligation to show what our version of the Batmobile would look like and give players the unique experience of driving that car. The Batmobile is Batman’s most powerful gadget and it’s useful in all kinds of ways depending on the situation.”

It sounds like the Batmobile will be much more than just a car, giving the Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay a boost in some interesting ways. It might be used to attack from a distance, as seen in Asylum when he took down Bane, or possibly to scale buildings like he did in Batman Forever.

Deaves added that the returning gadgets will have more functionality due to the height and scope of Gotham City in Arkham Knight’s stomping grounds. There will be skyscrapers this time, much like in Origins, so many gadgets will be given mid-flight controls. Deaves went on to emphasize how these wonderful toys will enhance the Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay.

“One of the best things about working with Batman is thinking of new ways to use gadgets to solve problems. We haven’t talked about the new gadgets that we’re adding to Batman’s utility belt yet, but on top of all the new tools you’ll have access to, one of the things we wanted to do this time is expand on how some of our classic Arkham gadgets can be deployed.

“So you can now use gadgets while you’re airborne – for example, throwing batarangs into a group of thugs to thin them out before you engage on foot. Some gadgets have been upgraded in response to the bigger design decisions we made in the game. For example, the skyscrapers in Gotham city are extremely tall, so to make navigation feel more natural, we’ve added a new chain grapnel that allows you to quickly ascend them by grappling multiple times in quick succession.”

It sounds like navigation in Arkham Knight is taking a queue from games like Saints Row 4 and Prototype, just more realistically.

What kind of new gadgets do you think will be added to the Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay? Get ready to play with the Caped Crusader’s wonderful toys once again on the Batman: Arkham Knight release date of June 2.
