Illegal immigrants are receiving tax refunds despite not having paid taxes, the Washington Times reported yesterday. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under the Obama Administration is allowing illegal immigrants to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit for last year’s taxes as well as those in the past.
“IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told Congress on Wednesday that even illegal immigrants who didn’t pay taxes will be able to claim back-refunds once they get Social Security numbers under President Obama’s temporary deportation amnesty,” the Washington Times reported, “The revelation — which contradicts what he told Congress last week — comes as lawmakers also raised concerns Mr. Obama’s amnesty could open a window to illegal immigrants finding ways to vote, despite it being against the law.”
Republican members of Congress from Ohio sent a letter to President Barack Obama expressing concern that granted tax refunds to illegal immigrants would affect elections by allowing illegal immigrants to cast votes.
“Mr. Obama’s new deportation policies, which carve most illegal immigrants out of danger of being removed, and could proactively grant as many as 4 million illegal immigrants work permits and Social Security numbers, are increasingly under fire for ancillary consequences such as tax credits and competition for jobs,” the Washington Times reported.
The policy of granting tax refunds to illegal immigrants was strongly challenged in a Congressional hearing by Cong. Rick Mulvaney (R-SC), who said, “[T]his is just another example of the (Obama) administration operating outside the rule of law.”
“Last week, we covered IRS Commissioner John Koskinen’s testimony about the shocking tax consequences of Obama’s executive amnesty plan. In previous testimony before Congress, Koskinen explained that illegal immigrants who were granted amnesty would be eligible to receive back-refunds in the form of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)—but only if they had registered with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN.) This means that, although the person was here illegally, they were still working and paying taxes and thus eligible for a refund,” Legal Insurrection reported.
It was announced earlier this month that illegal immigrants would be able to get “extra” tax refunds, theInquisitr reported. The tax refunds will be paid to those illegal immigrants granted “amnesty” under President Obama’s recently signed executive orders on immigration.
“Illegal immigrants will now be receiving “extra tax refunds” from the IRS. On Tuesday IRS Commissioner John Koskinen confirmed that President Barack Obama’s new immigration policies, which have been dubbed amnesty by opponents, allow illegal aliens to garner tax refunds for money they earned while working illegally in the United States. In 2010, the government paid out $4.2 billion to illegal immigrants who claimed the child tax credit, the IRS’s inspector general found,” theInquisitr reported.
