Rosie Perez is reportedly going to be fired from ABC’s The View, as per the producers original plan, even though she doesn’t even know it yet.
According to a Radar Online report, even though Rosie O’Donnell denied that her namesake was leaving the show, plans are still in the hatching to fire Perez. As a source claimed to the publication, “The plan [to fire her] is still on. She’s absolutely gone.”
The insider went on to explain that, in the context of O’Donnell’s departure, “they didn’t want to dump on Rosie Perez and fire her,” but since they thought she had to go, the source said, they “came up with a plan to give her a graceful exit,” in the form of her stint on Broadway.
USA Today reported that last month, Rosie Perez took a time out from The View, to prepare for her role in Larry David’s play Fish in the Dark, “They were hoping if her play was successful, she would say she couldn’t do both and it would be a mutual decision,” the source alleged.
Nevertheless, ABC bigwigs have denied the reports that Perez is leaving the network, as they are banking on the David play being a big hit in the hope she won’t want to return.
Meanwhile, according to the same source, “If it’s not successful, she’s got a movie coming up and basically they’ll say they can’t let her off for the movie and come to an agreement so she’s focusing on her acting.”
If the Radar source is correct, now that Rosie O’Donnell has gone from the show she can no longer stick up for Rosie Perez nor influence the decision making process at management level in any way,
“She knows they aren’t happy. She’s gotten the feedback directly from Rosie O’Donnell in a nurturing way and from [executive producer] Bill Wolff. The only wrench in the works is that people like Rosie O’Donnell have been out saying Rosie Perez isn’t leaving. But O’Donnell wasn’t in on that ABC decision,” the source claimed.
