Who Will Replace Jon Stewart On ‘The Daily Show’? Tina Fey, Amy Poehler Emerge As Popular Picks

The question of who will replace Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show has yet to be answered, but momentum appears to be building for the comedy duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to reunite yet again.

In the days since Stewart announced his decision to leave the show, speculation about who will replace him on The Daily Show has kicked into overdrive.

While a number of names have been tossed around as possible replacements, the most enthusiasm seems to be behind the idea of bringing Fey and Poehler back together. The two comedians have a long history together, including holding down the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update anchor desk and three successful stints as hosts of the Golden Globe Awards.

Fans are making their voices heard online, especially in regard to Amy Poehler taking over The Daily Show:

Comedy Central is already working on the question of who will replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. The network is reportedly determining whether Stewart will continue to play a role on the show.

“It’s not out of the question,” said Doug Herzog, president of Viacom Entertainment Group.

Herzog said there was still some work to be done in determining Stewart’s role and who his replacement will be.

“I think Jon wanted to get this off his chest and put it out there. He’s been carrying this for a little while, and now we’ll have to discuss” the next steps, Herzog said. “He’ll take a deep breath, as will we, and figure out what’s best for Jon Stewart and best for ‘The Daily Show,’ in that order.”

While Herzog did not answer the question of who will replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, he did rule out at least one candidate — former correspondent Jon Oliver. Herzog noted that “Oliver’s got a job,” referring to his own comedic news show on HBO. So fans hoping that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will take over on The Daily Show still have plenty of hope.
