School Bus Driver Selfie: Driver Appears To Be Drinking Alcohol In Selfie Facebook Photo

A school bus driver’s selfie on Facebook landed her in trouble after it appeared that she was drinking alcohol.

WCPO 9 News reports that the driver actually snapped a selfie while in the driver’s seat of the school bus. There weren’t any students on board the bus at the time, but it alarmed people enough that she’s not currently working as a bus driver for the Princeton School District in Ohio. The First Student bus company announced that she’s been “removed from service.”

After closer observation, the bottle that the bus driver is putting to her mouth still has the cap on it. Despite the probability that the bus driver wasn’t actually consuming the alcohol while alone in the vehicle, it wasn’t an appropriate move and parents are upset she had it on the bus to start with.

Sadie Leporati, the mother of a Princeton Elementary School student, isn’t impressed.

“Oh she doesn’t care. She obviously doesn’t care about her job,” Leporati tells Action 19 News.

“You are responsible for people’s children, so you should conduct yourself better than this,” Angela Whited, another parent, tells WLWT 5 News.

Just the idea that the driver had a bottle of booze on the bus isn’t using good judgement, a lot of parents feel. It isn’t representative of keeping children safe — or acting in a responsible manner.

A spokesperson of First Student released a statement Tuesday night.

“We understand and share in the concern this photo has caused the Princeton community. As soon as we became aware of the photo, we immediately began an internal review of the matter. We are incredibly disappointed by our driver’s actions.

While we have determined the photo was taken at the end of the driver’s route; that no students were on board; and, that the bottle was unopened, this behavior is completely unacceptable. Behavior such as this does not align with company policy and the high standards First Student strives for in all we do.

The driver has been removed from service.

First Student hasn’t indicated that they fired the school bus driver; she’s suspended pending further investigation into the matter. The name of the bus driver isn’t being released by news outlets.

The Princeton School District is involved with First Student’s investigation and assures parents that their number one priority is the safety of students. The district adds that it won’t tolerate this type of behavior.
