Rima Fakih, Former Miss USA, Back in Court for Drunk Driving

Laura Kaeppeler has been Miss America for close to a week now and she still hasn’t been arrested. Rima Fakih, who won Miss USA in 2010, hasn’t been so lucky. Fakih was arrested on December 3rd for a DUI and today she made an appearance in a Michigan court.

Fakih was pretty much silent through the entire proceedings, opening her mouth only to say “I apologize… My lawyer doesn’t want me to talk.”

Rima said a few more words after her trial on Twitter:

“Sometimes things appear to be going wrong, when in reality they are just being re-arranged for the right outcome!”

Judge Brigette Officer scheduled a March 14th court date, but Fakih’s attorney, W. Otis Culpepper, told reporters today that he believes that Fakih’s case will be resolved with a plea deal.

USA Today reports that Rima Fakih was pulled over on December 3rd after police spotted her weaving swerving down the road at 60 mph. Police found an open bottle of champagne in the car and Fakih’s blood alcohol level was measured at .2, more than twice the legal limit.

Rima Fakih was the first Arab-American woman to win the Miss USA pageant. Here’s a video about her win.

So what’s the difference between Miss USA and Miss America? After Kaepeller won Miss America last week, Rima Fakih tweeted:

“Miss america is the girl next door, miss usa is the girl u WiSH lived next door”

According to USA Today, Rima could face up to 93 days in jails if she is convicted.
