Wife-Killing Ex-Cop Drew Peterson Adds Murder For Hire To His Charges

Drew Peterson, who is currently incarcerated at the Menard Correctional Center, has been charged with trying to hire an assassin to kill the lead prosecutor in his murder trial.

Peterson, a former Illinois police officer, was convicted of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2012. The prosecutor who led that trial was Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow.

Fox News reports that he’s the prime suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Randolph County State’s Attorney Jeremy Walker filed a two count criminal information against the 61-year-old former policeman which charged him with two Class X felonies; one count of solicitation of murder, and one count of solicitation of murder for hire.

Class X felonies are just short of first degree murder. In Illinois, a defendant found guilty of a Class X felony cannot be sentenced to probation unless the prosecution agrees to amend the charge. The offense caries with it a minimum sentence of six to 30 years incarcerated in the Department of Corrections. According to Criminal Lawyer Illinois, Class X felonies in the state include the following charges.

  • Aggravated kidnapping
  • Aggravated battery with a firearm
  • Aggravated battery of a child
  • Home invasion
  • Aggravated criminal sexual assault
  • Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child (over 17 years of age and victim under 13-years-old)
  • Armed robery
  • Aggravated vehicular hijacking
  • Aggravated arson
  • Possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver

The Fox News report indicated that Peterson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 3, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.

His new charges allege that between September of 2013 and December of 2014, he solicited an unnamed individual to carry out the execution of Glasgow in a murder-for-hire plot.

He’s currently serving a 38-year prison sentence after his 2004 conviction in the drowning death of his third wife. The investigation into her death was reopened after the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy, back in 2007.

Authorities have indicated that while they have not discovered her remains, they believe that she is dead and that drew is responsible for her death, however, he has not been charged in that case. Peterson claims that Stacey ran away with another man. Neither her family, nor the police believe this claim.

Savio was discovered inside of her home, laying dead in a waterless bathtub with her hair soaked in blood. The coroner ruled her death at the time as an accidental drowning.

Glasgow issued a statement indicating that it was “unfortunate that prosecutors sometimes must deal with allegations of this nature,” the NY Post reported.

Two deputy sheriffs were arrested in Florida for their involvement in alleged drive-by shooting which took place in a Prius, Inquisitr reported previously.

Are you surprised to hear of the convicted wife killer’s alleged murder for hire plot or is this something you would expect from Drew Peterson?
