Monroeville Mall Shooting: Suspect Fired ‘Indiscriminately’ After Exchanging Words With Intended Victim

The Monroeville Mall shooting that took place on Saturday, February 7 still has many asking questions as to why the suspected shooter opened fire, though police are now saying that the 17-year-old did start shooting “indiscriminately” after exchanging words with another young male.

According to PennLive.com and the Associated Press, the Monroeville Mall went on lockdown Saturday evening after gunfire erupted inside Macy’s around 7:30 p.m. ABC News went on to say that Macy’s surveillance video showed the suspect, now being identified as 17-year-old Tarod Thornhill, exchanging words with another male before “shooting ‘indiscriminately’ ” into the store.

The Monroeville Mall surveillance video reportedly showed Thornhill firing just as a couple and a child walked into his path. According to Fox News, Police Chief Douglas Cole confirmed that two men and one woman were shot before Thornhill ran off.

“This was not random. We have evidence that leads to that.”

While Thornhill did manage to leave the Monroeville Mall after the shooting, reports state that police were able to use the surveillance video and Instagram to positively identify Tarod Thornhill as the shooter.

Many were at Monroeville Mall at the time of the shooting, including NFL Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, according to an earlier report by the Inquisitr.

“D**n was just in Monroeville Mall and just saw 2 ppl get shot. They are letting guns go in there,” Pryor reportedly posted to Twitter before later deleting it.

Once Thornhill was identified as the Monroeville Mall shooter, police reportedly arrested him at home in Brackenridge around 3:15 Sunday morning.

According to ABC News, Thornhill was arrested on multiple charges including three counts of aggravated assault, four counts of recklessly endangering another person, risking catastrophe and, according to Fox News, attempted homicide. The Allegheny County Police Department said in a statement that Thornhill has been charged as an adult.

Thornhill’s intended target has since been identified as 20-year-old Davon Jones and the two other victims have been identified as 47-year-old Mary Singleton and 48-year-old John Singleton.
