Johnny Depp is clearly the romantic type as he reportedly just renamed his $33 million yacht — which he used to share with his ex, Vanessa Paradis — as a wedding gift for his new wife, Amber Heard.
While Vanessa might not be so pleased that the super yacht is losing its original name, Vajoliroja — a combination of their two monikers and the names of their children Lily Rose and Jack — Amber will most likely be thrilled with the new name dedicated to her, Amphitrite, after the Greek goddess of the sea.
Depp, 51, married Heard, 28, in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and the couple are celebrating their wedding properly with a massive party this weekend.
In moving on from his previous relationship, Johnny Deep has reportedly decided wipe the slate clean, and changing the name of the yacht is another significant move in that direction.
Having never married, Depp and Paradis were together for 14 years until 2012, and the pair have a lot of history and plenty of water under the bridge, not to mention two kids together.
A couple of years before the split, Depp spoke to reporters about how marriage wasn’t something he considered important, at least not as far as his relationship with Vanessa was concerned.
He said back in 2010, “I never found myself needing that piece of paper. Marriage is really from soul to soul, heart to heart. You don’t need somebody to say, OK you’re married. If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not. But the thing is, I’d be so scared of ruining her last name. She’s got such a good last name.”
For their part, Depp and Heard will be looking forward to the proper wedding party taking place on Johnny’s private Bahamian island, Little Hall’s Pond Cay.
While it’s a cute and romantic gesture to Amber to mark their wedding, the renaming of the yacht may not go down so well with Vanessa, or the kids for that matter, and understandably so.
