Dead Island getting ‘Ryder White’ story DLC late this month

You’ve already had the opportunity to play through Dead Islands tropical zombie apocalypse as one of four good guys (and gals), but what if you could see how the story plays out from the perspective of the not-so-good guy, Ryder White?

When the next DLC arrives, you’ll have the opportunity to do just that. Publisher Deep Silver announced today that a new brand of story-driven Dead Island DLC is on its way, and it focuses entirely on the game’s antagonist, Ryder White.

Throughout the “several hours” worth of content, players will come to understand White’s motivations, and “why, from his point of view, he did what he had to do.” The singleplayer DLC offers a new perspective not only on the events of Dead Island, but of White himself–we get to see him as a “military man” and a “loving husband”. Not only do we get to learn what makes White tick, the story also sheds light on the happenings of the original game.

“I always like to think of antagonist characters not as evil, but simply…misunderstood,” says Deep Silver’s Aubrey Norris. “Ryder White was obviously suffering from a massive case of beast mood in Dead Island, and I think it’s only fair we got to learn his side of the story.”

You can catch the Ryder White Dead Island DLC on January 31 in North America for $9.99 on PSN, and a day later on Xbox 360 for 800 Microsoft Points.
