Millennium Falcon Drone Goes Viral, First Mission A Success [Video]

No, Chewie is not included. This functional Millennium Falcon drone was built by Olivier C, who lives in Grenoble, France. The maker admits that some of the controls are a bit rough – it’s reportedly front heavy, and the yaw control is a bit random – but that’s a small price to pay to make your own Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

Mashable reports that the customized drone is a quadcopter with a foam shell. As shown in the video above, the drone even sports take-off lights. The holes are there for the quadcopter’s propellers, and they likely make smuggling difficult.

There are a few other drawbacks. The battery life is only five minutes.

Nevertheless, According to CNet, the Millennium Falcon drone is already taking off on social media, and copycats might be coming out soon.

Oliver C is giving out the instructions on how Star Wars fans can build their own mini-Millennium Falcon on RC Groups. Unfortunately, the fanfare crashed the dropbox photos in the step-by-step instructions, but they should be returning soon.

Oliver also has plans for a Tie Fighter according to Reddit, but what the world is really waiting for is a drone death star.

Oliver C has an impressive Millennium Falcon drone, but what J.J. Abrams’ Falcon?

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will debut on December 18th, and director J.J. Abrams intends to use real sets, including a tangible Millennium Falcon ship. The style is a big step in a new direction after the CG-heavy Star Wars episodes one, two and three.

The lack of CG also extends to the characters, meaning that hundreds of extras will be hired to play storm troopers.

The new Star Wars might come with a sense of nostalgia for the fans, but if it fails to deliver, there’s always a drone Millennium Falcon ready to go to a galaxy far far away.
